A new skyscraper will appear in the Big Apple. What’s new? It might be build in the New York street with the highest and richest buildings. Here is the project of what would seem to be a new component of Billionaire’s Row in New York.
The NEW SKYSCRAPER in the BILLIONAIRE’S ROW in New York
# The project
The new skyscraper, called 41-47 West 57th Street, will overlook Central Park and Midtown Manhattan and, with its 63 floors including 5 in the podium and the remaining 58 above, will be 1100 feet tall (335 meters tall). It will be a mixed-use tower: it will host 119 residential units, a hotel, a restaurant and a commercial space of about 19000 square meters. It will have the shape of a wedge and it will be tilted from the south side.
# A fair trade
project
The project is signed by the architectural firm OMA. The developer Sedesco wanted to get more square meters to use for the new building. So in exchange for 52000 m2 of usable floor space, Sedesco offered the city improvements to the elevators of the 57th Street F subway station.
It is not only an initiative of Sedesco, but a project called Zoning for Accessibility in New York, announced in April 2021. In this program the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) provides incentives to all private developers who want to build near New York subway stations, in return entrepreneurs have to improve the accessibility of the stations themselves.
#It will be part of Billionaire’s Row
OMA didn’t reveal any information on the future skyscraper, but it would seem that it will be part of those buildings facing south of Central Park or near 57th Street, of Billionaire’s Row. In addition, in the area of the new 41-47 West 57th Street a project by Mark Foster Gage Architects would have be build, if it hadn’t be already rejected in 2015. Because of the whimsical design with motifs of wings and dramatic sculptural forms, the building would have been extremely extravagant and it would have called “The Khaleesi”, from the character of the TV series “Game of Thrones”.
