When the whole line goes into operation it will be the largest metropolitan ring in the world, beating the primacy of the Second Circle Line of the Beijing subway. Let’s find out the numbers of this huge work and where it is located.
In the last days of 2021, the construction of the tunnels of the Moscow Metro Big Circle Line was completed, in less than 10 years more than 140 km of tunnels were built, among the largest existing metro projects and the largest metropolitan ring ever in the world. It runs for 70 km, overcoming the 57 km of the Second Circle Line of the Beijing subway.
In addition to the Koltsevaya line, the 20 km long inner circular ring, and the 52 km long Moscow Central Circle, the third Moscow circular line is on its way. The BCL “Big Circle Line” formally called Line 11 along its route will have three depots and 31 stations.
The line will have interchanges with 20 stations on 11 radial metro lines, three stations on the Moscow Central Circle (MCC) railway, 13 stations on the Moscow Central Diameters suburban lines and 11 railway stations. The main transit hubs will be Delovoi Tsentr, Nizhegorodskaya, Savyolovskaya and Ulitsa Novatorov. Partially already in operation, the entire route will be active by the end of 2022.
The full opening of the line will simplify the movement of 3.3 million residents in 34 districts of the city. All 22 stations that have been open so far are already being used by nearly 500,000 people every day. In the future, when the Big Ring is completely closed, it will be used by approximately 2.25 million people per working day.
