High-speed trains are a great invention of the last century: they are very fast, comfortable, have all the comforts and pollute less than airplanes.

However, on top of all the above there is a “but”: they are very expensive.

The Spanish company Renfe wanted to find a solution to this “but”, and that’s how Avlo launched the High Speed low cost train.

The Spanish company Renfe launched again the low-cost train Avlo, which was supposed to leave at Easter 2020 and that it had been postponed because of the sanitary emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On March 24th, 2021 at 10:00 am, the first Avlo train departed from Puerta de Atocha station, the main station in Madrid….destination? Barcelona!

For the first time Avlo’s name appeared next to a gate number and there was even a dedicated basket for passengers in order to check the size of their luggage.

Right after the presentation, at 11.00 am, the train left the platform 4: there were 50 passengers on board and journalists were invited to personally try the new low cost train, that will begin to run officially on June 23rd, 2021

This train is one of the 5 belonging to the “112” series of trains restructured to start this commercial service covering Madrid-Zaragoza-Barcelona-Figueras.

The “low-cost” Spanish high-speed train will start with four daily runs between Madrid and Barcelona, which can be increased according to the demand.

As Highlighted by the company on the web site, they start from a new concept of travel: “travel with all comforts at the best price”. To reinforce this idea there are also the new colors: purple, blue and orange outside; white and orange inside.

But, how much does a direct trip from Madrid to Barcelona cost? Prices for trains at 300km/h start from 7 euro and thanks to these prices Avlo has already sold 200,000 tickets so that you can travel between the two Spanish cities.

The basic price includes a free cabin suitcase, as in the airplane, and a handbag.

The sale of tickets is managed through a dynamic and new system that offers any time the best price available for the trip you are looking for.

On the basic price, the customer can add additional services such as seat selection, changes or cancellations and additional baggage.

Kids will travel at a special price of 5 euros and discounts will be also available for large families.

The seats with caps and the new coatings in light colors differ from all the other trains of the company Renfe, which has already 4 other types of high-speed trains.

Regarding the new Avlo, the entire train has been unified in economy class, thus earning 20% of its capacity, up to 438 seats.

My name is Laura and I live in Italy with my husband, 2 gorgeous daughters and Spritz…our little dog…he is part of the family too :-) As a mum I try to be the best example for my daughters, we like to spend time together and we share a passion: we love playing the piano! They know I am always there for them and can talk about anything – this is one of things in my life I am so proud of. I am a very strong woman who works professionally with a positive approach and mindset and never gives up. I am also very detailed oriented (thanks also to my criminology degree back at the Uni) and like helping others and guide them to a more positive lifestyle-approach and support them through difficulties. I like challenges and I am always keen on learning and improve myself. I believe this is the reason why I am so excited about this new adventure with the group!
