It is a project wanted by ONU to meet the need of creating new living spaces caused by the continuous demographic increase. Considering that two-thirds of the planet is covered by water, ONU has identified, as a possible solution to this problem, the colonization of the ocean.

And so, someone got the idea of creating a floating city off the coast of South Korea. The realization will involve an investment of approximately 200 million dollars and should by accomplished by 2025.

It is planned to build small hexagonal modules set on a ring in order to create a real town. Each module will correspond to a sort of neighborhood; in fact it will accommodate up to 1650 inhabitants. Of course there will not be only houses, in the new floating city, but also there will be shops, markets, centers for spirituality and places dedicated to culture and sport, as well as green spaces.

The project of the first floating city in the world has already been assigned to Oceanix by the government of Busan City. The city will be completely green: they will use local materials such as wood and bamboo, renewable energies will be utilized and they will create a large area dedicated to agriculture. And if there are concerns about the safety of the future citizens, as the city is in the middle of the ocean, be sure that there’s nothing to worry about.

The whole city has been designed to withstand even the most extreme weather conditions; it would even withstand a category 5 hurricane. A possible solution to severe climatic situation like the heavy wind, is that there will be buildings not higher than 7 floors.

Everything has been planned and is ready, so, all we have to do now, is to decide… who’s going to live in the first floating city in the world? And above all, if this is the new city approach and more cities like this will be created, who would accept to live in the middle of the sea?

My name is Laura and I live in Italy with my husband, 2 gorgeous daughters and Spritz…our little dog…he is part of the family too :-) As a mum I try to be the best example for my daughters, we like to spend time together and we share a passion: we love playing the piano! They know I am always there for them and can talk about anything – this is one of things in my life I am so proud of. I am a very strong woman who works professionally with a positive approach and mindset and never gives up. I am also very detailed oriented (thanks also to my criminology degree back at the Uni) and like helping others and guide them to a more positive lifestyle-approach and support them through difficulties. I like challenges and I am always keen on learning and improve myself. I believe this is the reason why I am so excited about this new adventure with the group!
