China’s new record-breaking infrastructure was finished in late 2021 and left industry experts in awe. Yangbaoshan Bridge, which is part of the Guyiang-Huangping Highway, is the first 6-lane bridge in the world to exceed 300 meters in height. The steel truss suspension bridge spans the upper reaches of the Qingshui River in the central province of Guizhou and is about 360 meters high.

The lower leg of the west tower is 186.5 meters high and under the road it measures 110.7 meters, making it like a “suspension bridge on stilts”. In fact, there are only six other bridges in the world with the carriageway positioned over a pillar at least 100 meters high. The bridge is 1.11 km long and 650 meters wide with a single span between the two banks.

The cables, used to connect and keep the towers and the bridge under tension, weigh a total of 4,600 tons and each is made up of 36 high-strength galvanized steel wires. If they were separated and lined up one after the other, they would reach a length of 26,000 km, double the Earth’s diameter.
