THE ORGAN played by the SEA (video)

There is a place where you can attend a concert played by Nature itself. The artist is the sea and the music is produced by a special organ that transforms the waves into musical notes.

To attend the most “eco-sustainable” concert in the world, you don’t have to worry about the ticket price, because the artist is the sea and admission is totally free. To tell the truth, the protagonists of this show are two: the sea and the marine organ. The only sea organ in the world was designed by architect Nikola Bašić and is located in the city of Zadar, Croatia. For the moment this is the only city in the world where you can hear a concert played entirely by the sea.

It is legitimate to ask how it is possible, how it is possible that real symphonies are produced without any human intervention. The Sea Organ was built as a long staircase on the edge of the sea and is composed of channels connected to 35 polyethylene tubes of various lengths, diameters and inclinations. Each of these tubas is, in turn, connected to different musical strings and thus the waves of the sea are transformed into musical notes, producing ever new symphonies.

Thanks to this special marble staircase, the promenade of Zadar has become a more unique than rare place and is destined to become a myth. In fact, its 7 jumps in altitude have already been nicknamed “the 7 Sirens” as those that – according to mythology – with their song tried to charm the sailors. The organ, as the sirens did, bewitches its visitors and accompanies the breathtaking landscape, keeping them fascinated on the steps to enjoy the first real concert performed by Nature.
