It is located on the shores of Lake Traunsee in Austria, at about 400 meters above sea level, the smallest town in the world to have an urban tram line. It is called Gmunden and has 13,199 inhabitants. The only existing tram line, inaugurated on August 13, 1894, is managed by Stern & Hafferl and runs only 2.3 km long for 8 stops and for years was the shortest urban tram line in the world. There are another 5 new stops under construction along the route.
