The SMALLEST HOTEL in the WORLD

The Guinness World Record officially names the world records, but often omits some disconcerting records in order to follow excessively rigorous standards. Among these, there is the smallest hotel in the world: it is a Volkswagen Beetle used as a hotel. Let’s see where it is and what it offers to its guests.

Almost everyone, at least once in their life, spends a stay in a hotel that is so small that it turns their holiday into a nightmare. But the case of the smallest hotel in the world is different, here the size of the “room” will make the stay unforgettable due to its breathtaking location and rather curious traditional furnishings. In fact, the Beetle-hotel is located in the village of Al Jaya, in the heart of the Jordanian desert and furnished with traditional fabrics, cushions and carpets, it looks like a Bedouin tent in the desert. The owner, Mohamed al Malahim, decided to transform the car into a small room by replacing the seats with a comfortable double mattress and a few pillows.

And that’s not all. The hotel, which may appear improvised, is actually part of a much bigger dream. In fact, Mohamed would like to buy other cars of the same model in the future to create a large Beetle-hotel parking lot in the desert. The hotel reception is located in a cave near the “room”, a far from inhospitable place where the owners welcome tourists with traditional food and drinks.

# A strategic location: on the border between Israel and Jordan

The car was placed on stones to lift the tires off the ground and next to it there is a sign with the words “Smallest hotel in the world”. In this small room, from 2011 to today, about 160 people have already stayed thanks to its strategic position: on the border between Israel and Jordan. In fact, the valley in which it is located was carved by the river (Wadi in Arabic) and extends for 166 km between the Dead Sea to the north and the Gulf of Aqaba to the south. But the most visited attraction near the Beetle-hotel is definitely Shawbak Castle, a Crusader castle built in 1115 by King Baudouin I of Jerusalem during an expedition to the area. If you intend to visit the city of Petra, which is located just 30 km from the hotel, this is an unmissable stop even just to take some photos of the absurd activity and get to know the friendly owner.

According to Guinness World Records, the smallest hotel in the world is the Eh’häusl hotel, yet this is the smallest place to spend a strange but exciting night.
