Walking through the streets of Thorpeness there is a house that stands out from the others, it is not for the bright colors of the dye or the luxurious windows, it is literally 20 meters higher than all the other houses.

It is called “The house in the clouds” and it is not difficult to understand why: this very high house touches the clouds.

The House in the Clouds is a residential and hotel building located in Thorpeness, a village in Suffolk, in the countryside of eastern England. Its peculiarity is not difficult to find: the top part in the shape of a red house emerges from everything else touching the sky.

The building originates from a pre-existing structure built in 1923 to house a water tank that was pumped from the nearby mill in the village of Thorpeness. At that time it was decided to hide that ugly part, but how to do it?

Any person would have thought of painting or renovating it but the decision went towards a choice to say the least crazy: to create a sort of tower that soon became a singular attraction of the place.

In 1977 Thorpeness and other nearby villages were served by a new water supply and the water tank that supplied the village ceased to be used, only to be removed in 1979.

Since then the structure was bought by a private individual, transformed into a multi-storey house surmounted by the characteristic red house and used as a hotel.

Since 1995 it has been considered a Grade II listed national monument.

The building stands about 22 meters high, following the typical style of the English countryside and in harmony with the whole village of Thorpeness.

The house in the clouds was designed by urban planner Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie, with the idea of creating an ideal vacation spot.

The lower part has a bluish color with corner windows on each side, while the top is characterized by a larger module and the projecting perimeter in the shape of a red house, with the typical orange roof that every child has drawn at least once in his life.

The unique tree offers spacious accommodation with 5 bedrooms, 2 with double beds, 3 with single beds and an additional double sofa bed.

The accommodation includes 3 bathrooms / 1 shower, lounge, dining room (12 seating) and a magnificent attic offering the best views of Suffolk.

The house is equipped with everything you need: dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, freezer, washing machine, dryer, TV, gas central heating and even table tennis, lawn tennis and bowls to play with.

But how much does it cost to sleep in the house in the clouds?

Sleeping in the house in the clouds actually has a price that makes you fly: depending on the period it can cost up to 900 dollars a night.
