In a few years, a “subway of the Alps” could be inaugurated, designed to relaunch two amazing valleys between Italy and Switzerland that suffer from competition from the most famous mountain resorts and preferred by tourists. Bak Economics, an authoritative Swiss research center, has published the figures of this incredible project: the planned investment is 52 million francs, 26.5 million francs would be the gross added value generated only during the construction phase and between direct employment and induced, 235 jobs would be created.

The transnational underground would connect, through a 5.8 km route entirely in a tunnel to reduce the environmental impact, the locality of Formazza, at 1,280 meters in Piedmont in the homonymous valley, and the Ticino Walser locality of Bosco Gurin, in Vallemaggia to 1,500 meters high. There will be only two stops, those of the two terminus, and the journey will last 8 minutes. The trains will have a capacity of 50 seats and will run six trips per hour. When fully operational, 115,200 people should be transported every year, many of whom will sleep at least one night in the accommodation facilities and stop to eat in the shelters and restaurants of the two municipalities.
