No panem, no circenses

What could happen if this resulted in a rationing of energy resources and, consequently, to a shortage of food resources?

Assault on the ovens

The real reason for peoples’ rebellion is always the price of basic goods. The trend in prices of energy resources and food commodities suggests that, in the near future, people might not have enough food to survive.
And the consequence of this could be a huge wave of anger against governments.

If there were a shortage of bread in ancient Rome, the Empire would collapse: to ensure stability, the top priority was to protect trade flows from North Africa so as to guarantee that the Romans would receive bread.
It’s not just oil and gas prices that are spiraling out of control these days. The price of seeds has tripled, the price of fertilizers has doubled, there is a shortage of phosphate, the prices of metals used in the industry are skyrocketing and everything is reflected in food prices.

There is an unsolvable shortage where we are losing 6% of non-renewable sources every year. And the policies implemented in recent years have exacerbated this scarcity, hiding it from everyone.
For many years, the Giants, i.e. the largest oil fields, have stopped investing as much as they did before because investments are not as profitabile as they used to be. You spend more and more and the investment pays less and less. The green transition, which was designed to make up for this deficit, was implemented in the midst of this declining trend: a policy that ended up reducing investments in new explorations, thus further aggravating the supply deficit.

What could happen if this resulted in a rationing of energy resources and, consequently, to a shortage of food resources?

We have the feeling that, in the end, the very same people who caused the crisis could stand as saviors. And that they could direct the anger of citizens against those they themselves have used and who are now at the forefront in managing the current emergency.

The same people who are ruling now, absolved of all guilt, could soon become the scapegoats even for faults that are not theirs.
