The Dream Route of Italy, the CYCLE LANE SUSPENDED between the TREES: will it be the most beautiful in the world?

The Tree Path: the path between trees up to six meters high

An ambitious project that could see its realization soon. But where do you want to build the cycle path which, as a beauty, could even beat Garda by bike (the cycle path built in mid-air above the water, overlooking the lake)?

The Tree Path will be the name of the cycle path suspended among the trees designed by Carlo Ratti Associati and presented together with the non-profit organization GAL Terre. It will be built near Sabbioneta, near Mantua, the final destination of the track.

The Sentiero degli Alberi will connect the Ciclovia del VENTO, a track that runs along the river Po throughout northern Italy, with Sabbioneta, passing through the nearby town of Casalmaggiore. The city, already a UNESCO World Heritage Site, could add a piece to its beauty and its tourist strength: this track would in fact be a real revolution.

Designed in collaboration with OLA (Office for Living Architecture), the idea is that the trees will act as structural architectural elements. The Baubotanik construction technique will be used, a method in which architectural structures are created through the interaction of technical joints and plant growth. In fact, the elevated cycle path will rest on two parallel rows of trees, as if they were pillars.

The Italian Dream Route will develop over three floors, the last raised from the ground up to 6 meters high, and will bypass the city’s traffic and waterways. To achieve it it will be essential to plant new trees, up to 1000 new plants are thought to be, so that these grow around a stainless steel wire and become supporting pillars of the cycle path.

The Tree Path will also be a smart track: it will record the levels of air pollution and the health of the plants thanks to some sensors that will be positioned in the structure. Sensors that, as Carlo Ratti Associati states, will create an “Internet of trees”.
